The king of hip hop was finally dethroned from the top of the Canadian album charts after six consecutive weeks -- and by a red hot Montreal band, no less.
The Arcade Fire's third studio effort, "The Suburbs," debuted at No. 1 on sales of 31,000, dropping Slim Shady's "Recovery" down to No. 2, according to Nielsen SoundScan figures.
It marks the second straight time the indie darlings have entered at No. 1. Their last release, 2007's "Neon Bible," also hit the top in its first week, racking up 30,000 in sales.
The Arcade Fire also grabbed the No. 1 spot stateside, selling 156,000 copies of "The Suburbs" in the U.S., according to Billboard.com.
Back here, Avenged Sevenfold's "Nightmare" (5,100) moved down one spot to No. 3, while teen sensation Justin Bieber's "My World 2.0" clocked in at No. 4.
Z103.5's annual collection "Summer Rush," had the second highest premiere at No. 5, the Black Eyed Peas' "The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies)" sank three notches to No. 6, and Los Angeles-based rockers Buckcherry checked in at No. 7.
Wrapping up the top 10 was Lady Gaga's "The Fame" at No. 8, Jack Johnson's "To the Sea" at No. 9, and Drake's "Thank Me Later" at No. 10.
In the U.S., Eminem placed second, followed by Avenged Sevenfold in third, rapper Bun B's "Trill O.G." in fourth, and Lady Gaga in fifth.
